MUSCATINE, Iowa — The Muscatine community is reeling after a devastating series of shootings that left six people dead across multiple locations in the city on June 1, 2026. Authorities say the violence stemmed from a domestic-related dispute involving 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland, who is believed to have killed six relatives before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, officers responded shortly after noon to a residence at 210 Park Avenue, where they discovered four victims suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Police identified Ryan Willis McFarland as the suspected gunman. After leaving the Park Avenue residence, he was located by officers on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. During an encounter with law enforcement, McFarland sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
